A Sneak Peek Mash-Up

I hate when I neglect my blog, but occasionally it happens. I’ve been shooting non-stop lately, which has been really fun. I thought I’d throw up a peek at what I’ve been up to before each gets a dedicated blog post!

Destination Wedding – Kauai – Susan and Steve are married!

I say it every time I shoot one, but I love destination weddings. And I know you’re thinking, what’s not to love? It’s a vacation! Well, it’s not exactly that, it’s still work and it’s hard work at that (think heavy gear, heat, plane journeys, equipment schlepping!). But I do love it. And my favorite thing about shooting a destination wedding? The time you get to spend with the couple and their guests leading up to the event. It’s totally invaluable.

Being that the bride, Susan, is not just a fellow photographer, but also a great friend, I was honored to when she asked me to capture her wedding day in Hawaii. I’ve known her and her (now) husband (yay!) Steve for a few years and I was really excited!!! Now I’m not gonna lie, Kauai was definitely one of the most amazing places I’ve ever been in my life and shooting there was a total dream. Maybe one day I’ll find the time to go through/post my personal photos from the trip. But first and foremost I bring you their gorgeous wedding on Anini Beach in Kauai.

Congrats to Susan and Steve and thank you to Pat and Tammy (their Maid of Honor and Best Man) for treating me like family all week. I have fantastic memories from this trip because of you all.

(I don’t usually blog out of order, but I love this shot!)

And, yup, we trashed the dress… here is a little peek at that – with more to come!

Queens County Farm Museum Wedding – Jenessa and Dan are Married!

Jenessa and Dan are awesome! When I first met up with them to talk about their wedding, they had so many DIY ideas that could easily stress a couple out. But they pulled off everything just perfectly with the help of some really crafty friends and family members. The Queens County Farm Museum is a really charming venue and it fit the vibe of their intimate, detail-oriented wedding quite well. Scroll down and check out their amazing cake(s) made by the bride’s mother and step-father! It was so nice to see so many people working together to make their day flawless. Congrats to you two and enjoy!

How cool is it that Dan’s grandma is doing a shot?!

Someone has got some dance moves!

Addison Park Wedding, New Jersey – Diane and Nick are Married!

I am so excited to share Diane and Nick’s wedding on the blog today! The two were married at Addison Park in New Jersey – an absolutely stunning venue. Everything there, from start to finish was perfectly executed, visually pleasing and delicious! I hadn’t met Nick or Diane before the wedding, which is rare for me, so I’m going to admit I was a little bit nervous! But as soon as I met them, instantly I felt like family. I’m not sure what’s going on this year but it has, so far, been a year of crazy fun weddings – I’m loving it! Diane and Nick were a breeze to work with and to photograph and their family and friends were awesome to be around. I loved every second of their day and I hope their images illustrate just how much love and joy filled the air.

Enjoy!

Merri-Makers at Water’s Edge Wedding – Dana and Brian are married!

Dana and Brian had a fabulous (and cold) wedding day and I’m so excited to share these images on the blog! Their ceremony was held at Our lady of Mount Carmel, Asbury Park and we headed to the boardwalk to take photos, but mother nature was against us. It was FREEEEEEEEEEZING. I’m so thankful to their wedding party for sticking it out and letting me get the shots I asked for. I did try to be sensitive to their lack of stockings, open toed shoes and no-sleeves! We then headed to Monmouth University to, get this, the building where Annie was filmed. It’s true, I photographed in Daddy Warbuck’s house! You might know this, but I’m a musical theater geek, so this was like a dream come true. I did resist my urge to bust out singing ‘I think I’m gonna like it here!’ and recite Annie lines word for word…

Finally, their reception took place at the gorgeous Merri-Makers at Water’s Edge in Sea Bright, NJ. And like every New Jersey wedding I’ve ever shot, their friends and family killed it on the dancefloor. As a Jersey girl myself, there is nothing I like to see more than a rowdy dance floor! Thank you Dana and Brian for having me capture your day. I hope you’re enjoying your honeymoon!

I love how Dana tied her Grandparents’ wedding rings into the pocket of her dress.

Dyker Beach Golf Course Wedding – Nicoletta and Jacob are married!

What an amazing time this wedding was! The Dyker Beach Golf Course was a stunning venue (the dessert room, yes room, was one of the most amazing sights I’ve ever seen!). And the music? Unbelievable! I love me some dance floor photos and this dance floor was out of control thanks to their amazing DJs Rhythm of the Night Entertainment. Nicoletta and Jacob were such a joy to work with. Congrats to them and their families – enjoy the photos!

Wedding Crashers 2011

This weekend I was honored to be a speaker at Wedding Crashers, a wedding fair that took place at the Bell House in Brooklyn. It was put on by Brooklyn Based and featured some of my favorite wedding vendors. When I wasn’t speaking, I was running around snapping photos and I’m super excited to share them with you! I plan on posting a little post on my talk, so stay tuned for that. But for now check out what went down.

How pretty is this entrance done by Rock Paper Scissors Events?

Rebecca Shepherd Floral Design had one of the most beautiful tables I’ve ever seen. Her arrangements are always unique and just so stunning to look at!

The lovely Anni Bruno of NYC Faces doing an impromptu make over (she’s the make up artist behind Sam’s beautiful face in this wedding!).

The beautiful (and delicious!) cakes by Nine Cakes !

I love this shot of the Nine Cakes ladies being goofy in the photobooth.

I also got to meet talented wedding planner Tammy Golson who helped organize the event. I was totally in love with her table (being a scrabble fanatic!).

Oh! And check out this stunning designs by Inspired Goodness!

Afterwards, everyone headed over to The Green Building in Gowanus for some more fantastic vendors and a fashion show by Gabriella Bridal Salon and JFK Jean. I got a chance to hang out backstage with the gals and guys. I am so in love with this first dress!

Makeup artist Jessa Blades at work.

I loved this first dance demo from Orange Grove Dance. How in love do these two look?

The entire day was a total blast! Additional images can be seen here: Wedding Crashers Album

Personalizing Your Wedding – Some Fun Inspiration!

On this Wedding Wednesday, I bring you a different type of blog post. I was so impressed with how well April and Michael personalized their wedding, I wanted to share some details that weren’t included in their original blog post (Haven’t seen it? View it here). I hope these details bring a bit of inspiration to the readers who are currently planning their big day!

It was fun to watch them plan their wedding (and even help out a bit!) and it’s safe to say I was in awe from the start. I see a lot of weddings in a year, but aside from the photography end of things, I don’t really get the chance to witness all the hard work couples put into their planning – wow! Now April might have an bit of an advantage, being that she is a super talented graphic designer, but it was more than the design elements that impressed everyone. It was the thought and personality the two put into all the details – from the invites to the thank you’s – they had guests saying, at nearly every turn, “that’s so April” or “that is totally Michael.”

The inspiration for this post? After a looooong day of editing yesterday, I came home to find a fun treat in my mailbox – their thank you note!

During the wedding, friends and family (and even their vendors!) continuously commented on how awesome their music was. Maybe I’m biased, but I have to agree. A Regina Spector recessional? Ida for their first dance and a Postal Service last dance? Pretty awesome. So what better way to say ‘thanks’ then by sending each guest a mix to remember the day by? When I got mine in the mail, I (literally) jumped for joy. And as I sit listening to it right now, I’m totally taken back to their wedding day (I even teared up when I heard their first dance!). Before popping it into my computer to listen to, I snapped a few photographs of it. Amazing, right?

But let’s go back to the start. April and Michael met in fall. Michael even baked her a pumpkin pie on their first date (which my mother wouldn’t let April eat, but that’s entire other blog post). It’s only fitting that their wedding take place in fall and have a very fall theme. Fall colors, trees and leaves became a big part of their wedding day, starting with the save the dates April designed.

Next up, the invites! April and Michael tried to keep things as green as possible, using recycled materials and upcycling a bit as well. Their invites were screen printed onto vintage handkerchiefs.

Response cards and directions.

We had an assembling party and put the cards, handkerchiefs together to be mailed. It was pretty fun, picking and choosing which guest got which handkerchiefs!!!

Last, but not least, family and the importance of played a huge roll in their wedding day. Family photos were strung through the venue and wedding photos of grandparents, parents and siblings were displayed. In place of a guest book, April printed a large tree with their logo and guests stamped their thumbs and signed their names. Here is the finished product, which now hangs in their living room.

She has designed stuff for me, too! Aren’t I one lucky duck?

Stroudsmoore Country Inn – April and Michael

I couldn’t let another ‘Wedding Wednesday’ go by without posting a wedding, now could I? And this wedding is super special to me because it’s my sister’s!

When April and Michael first asked me to shoot their wedding I was like, “Duh, of course!” but then I started to think about it all and… well your sister only gets married once. I pictured my often uncoordinated self balancing a bouquet and a camera down the aisle (in heels, to boot!) and knew I wanted to be a Maid of Honor first and a photographer second. So I took a backseat and shot some details, the first look and a day after portrait session. Smartest decision ever made, because I had a total blast celebrating and dancing and I would not have wanted it any other way!

My sister is a graphic designer and she pretty much put together every tiny detail of her wedding with the help of Michael and other family and friends, they pulled their hand made wedding off flawlessly.
